# For Meldefluss, where can I find my tax office number?

To register with ELSTER in Meldefluss, you will also need the **four-digit tax office number** of your local tax office. This is used to uniquely identify your registration.

**There are several easy ways to find it:**
* **On tax assessment notices or letters from the tax office: **The number is usually found at the top of the letterhead or at the bottom of the last page.
* **In your tax return: **If you have already filed a tax return, you will find the number next to your tax number or separately on the form.
* **In the ELSTER portal: **When you log in to [www.elster.de](http://www.elster.de), the system automatically displays your responsible tax office, including the number.
* **Via the tax office search of the Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt)**

**➡️ Here is the [tax office finder](https://www.bzst.de/DE/Service/Behoerdenwegweiser/Finanzamtsuche/GemFa/finanzamtsuche_node.html) (*available in EN*).**

Simply enter your postal code or city. The responsible tax office and its number will be displayed immediately.

| Call the tax office directly or send an email: If you are unsure, you can always ask the tax office. They will provide you with the number.

### **Good to know**
* The tax office number is **not the same as your tax number**.
* It always consists of **four digits** (e.g., 1088 or 2814).
* The number depends on your **current business location**, so if you move, your tax office may also change.
