# Why the receipt shows an amount “Da saldare” when the customer has already paid

**This article covers only how OpenFiskal works in Italy.**

When a customer pays for a sale in several parts with Shopify POS “Split payments”, for example part with a gift card and the rest by card, the receipt shows the second part as “Da saldare” (to be paid). That is correct: VAT is declared on the full amount and the customer owes nothing.

## How a split payment is recorded

For goods, VAT is due at the moment the customer takes them away, even if up to that point they have paid only part of the price. Whatever is missing is recorded as “Credito per cessione di bene consegnato” and, when the customer pays it, no new receipt is issued, because the VAT on that amount has already been declared.

At the till everything happens within a few seconds, but the order of the payments matters. As soon as you collect the first part, OpenFiskal issues the receipt (the documento commerciale) for the full amount, with the rest shown as “Da saldare”. When you collect the second part, for the Agenzia delle Entrate you are collecting the balance of an amount that has already been declared, so no second receipt is needed: issuing one would mean declaring the same amount twice.

| The receipt is correct: VAT is declared on the full amount of the sale and the customer has paid everything.

All of this applies when the customer takes the goods straight away. If instead they leave a deposit and pick the goods up later, it's a different case: you'll find what to do in [Unsupported cases in Italy](https://help.openfiskal.com/en/article/unsupported-cases-in-italy-1uvhhr2/#2-deposits-with-later-pickup-cant-be-handled-in-a-single-order).

## The two receipts in the order

Every split payment generates two receipts, which you find by opening the order in Shopify POS, in the OpenFiskal section.

* **“Vendita”** (sale) is the receipt transmitted to the Agenzia delle Entrate. It shows the total of the sale with VAT on the full amount, and the second part of the payment as “Da saldare”.

* **“Pagamento”** (payment) shows the second payment together with the first. It is not transmitted, because that amount has already been declared with the sale receipt: that's why it carries the label “Nessuna trasmissione prevista” (no transmission planned).

Below is an example with a €15 sale, paid first €10 and then €5. This is the “Vendita” receipt:

And this is the “Pagamento” receipt:

## What to tell the customer

The receipt the customer gets at the till shows “Da saldare”, so it's normal for them to worry. To reassure them, you can also print the “Pagamento” receipt, which shows both payments.

1. Open the order in Shopify POS.

2. In the OpenFiskal section, tap “Visualizza scontrino” (view receipt) next to “Pagamento”.

3. Print the receipt.

You can go along with it with a sentence like this:

| “Don't worry, you've paid everything. When you pay in two parts the receipt is issued on the first payment, which is why the second part shows as ‘da saldare’. I'll print you the receipt for the second payment as confirmation.”

## How it shows on the Agenzia delle Entrate portal

On the Fatture e Corrispettivi portal the sale receipt shows the full amount, with VAT calculated on all of it. The second part of the payment does not appear under its payment method, but in the “Credito per cessione di bene consegnato” field, and it is included in the “Totale non riscosso”.

In the daily summary these amounts end up under “Non riscosso per cessione di beni consegnati”. If you compare the day's totals with those in OpenFiskal, keep this in mind: you'll find how in [Reconciling your OpenFiskal totals with the Agenzia delle Entrate portal](https://help.openfiskal.com/en/article/reconciling-your-openfiskal-totals-with-the-agenzia-delle-entrate-portal-kbzz9f/).
