How to add the OpenFiskal extensions to Shopify POS

OpenFiskal adds a few extensions to Shopify POS: tiles for the smart grid, the Shopify POS home screen, and one on the checkout screen, which shows the receipt QR code and lets you print the receipt. You add all of them from the OpenFiskal app, and it only takes a few minutes.

The smart grid tiles

1. In the OpenFiskal app, go to “Settings” > “POS Extensions”.
2. Click “Manage” next to the tile you want to add. The smart grid editor opens.
3. Select the grid page, for example “Page 1”.
4. Click “Add tile”.
5. Open the “Apps” tab and scroll to the OpenFiskal tiles.
6. Select the tile you want to add, and repeat for each one you need.
7. Click “Save” at the top right.

Here’s what each tile does:

• OpenFiskal shows the fiscal status of the register you’re using, so you can check at a glance that OpenFiskal is active on that device. We recommend it on every register.
• Z-Reports lets you view and print your Z-reports at the register. More in How to do your daily closing and get your Z-report.
• Receipts reopens the last receipt, for example if you closed the checkout screen before showing the QR code or printing.
• Handoff by OpenFiskal is only for merchants who take card payments on a SumUp Solo terminal. See Handoff by OpenFiskal for SumUp.

On the “POS Extensions” page, each tile shows which registers have it (“Added”) and which don’t yet (“Not added”).

If you have more than one location

Each smart grid template is assigned to one or more locations. To check which, click the three dots next to the template name, for example “Smart grid 1”, then “Assign to locations”. If your locations use different templates, add the tiles to each one, or some registers won’t have them.

The checkout extension

You need it if you print receipts with OpenFiskal. If you print with Shopify, add it only if you also want to show the receipt QR code on screen. You add it once and it works on every register and location.

1. In the OpenFiskal app, go to “Settings” > “POS Extensions”.
2. Scroll down to “Receipts · Post-purchase & order details” and click “Manage”. The “Apps for Point of Sale” panel opens.
3. Under “OpenFiskal”, activate “Receipts”. A checkmark appears next to it.
4. Click “Save” at the top right.

From then on, the OpenFiskal block appears on the checkout screen after every sale, with the receipt QR code and a “Print” button. The customer scans the QR code with their phone to open the receipt, and you tap “Print” if they want a paper copy.

If an extension doesn’t appear in Shopify POS

Work through these in order.

• The change isn’t saved. Open the editor again through “Manage” and check that the change was saved, not just selected.
• Shopify POS is still using the old setup. Close the Shopify POS app completely and open it again.
• Shopify POS is out of date. Update it from the App Store or Google Play, then check again.
• The register uses a different smart grid template. Check which location the device is logged in to, and that the template you edited is the one assigned to that location.
