This guide explains step by step how Handoff is used to automatically transfer cart total amounts from Shopify POS to SumUp Solo card terminals.

Note: Handoff does not interfere with the Shopify POS checkout. OpenFiskal does not process payments. Payments are handled by SumUp and must still be manually marked as paid in the Shopify POS checkout.

Requirements

Active SumUp account
SumUp Solo card terminal
Shopify POS with the OpenFiskal app installed

1. Activate Handoff

Activate Handoff so that cart total amounts are automatically sent to the connected SumUp card terminals.

After activation, amounts from the checkout are transferred directly to the respective card terminal. Manual input on the terminal is no longer required.

2. Connect the SumUp account

Connect an existing SumUp account or create a new account.

Enter the login details and complete the connection process. After a successful connection, the available card terminals can be accessed.

3. Add the OpenFiskal POS extension

Install the POS extension “OpenFiskal”.

After installation, complete one checkout in Shopify POS to ensure the extension is properly initialized.

This step can be skipped if the extension is already installed and at least one checkout has already been completed.

4. Add the Handoff by OpenFiskal POS extension

Install the POS extension “Handoff by OpenFiskal”.

Complete one checkout to fully activate the extension.

This step can also be skipped if the extension is already installed and has been used before.

5. Connect card terminals

Link the SumUp Solo card terminals to the connected SumUp account.

Only connected card terminals are available for use with Handoff.

If a SumUp Solo is already connected to a SumUp account, first sign out on the card terminal. Only then can a pairing code be generated on the Solo.

6. Assign card terminals to registers

Assign a dedicated SumUp card terminal to each register.

This ensures that the cart total amount is always sent to the correct card terminal, even when multiple registers are used at the same location.

Result

After completing all steps, cart total amounts from Shopify POS are automatically transferred to the assigned SumUp Solo card terminal. The payment process becomes faster, simpler, and less error prone.
