The start date is the day on which a cash register was set up and ready for use and could be used for business operations, i.e., not the first sale, but the first day on which the cash register could theoretically be used.

What counts as the start date?

The day on which you set up the cash register in the store and got it ready to go
Not the date of purchase or the first transaction
Even if there were no customers on that day, the cash register was ready for use

💡 You set the start date yourself. Shopify does not automatically display this value.

Examples:

Situation	Start date
Store opens on 01.05, first sale on 03.05	01.05
Cash register set up on April 10th, store opened on May 1st	01.05
Test sale on the 15.03, actual sales starting April 1st	01.04 (not the test day)

Important for checkout reporting:

Each individual checkout (e.g., each iPad) gets its own start date.
