How to fiscalize registers and online sales (AdE - Italy)

For OpenFiskal to transmit to the Agenzia delle Entrate, you need to tell it which sales to certify. The configuration differs depending on where you sell, and it's the same choice you made when you activated live mode: in-store sales, online sales, or both.
If you only sell online you can skip the first section: registers only concern Shopify POS.

In-store sales: fiscalizing the registers

In OpenFiskal a register is a device (smartphone or tablet) that runs the Shopify POS app. Only fiscalized registers transmit their transactions to the Agenzia delle Entrate. A non-fiscalized device stays invisible to the AdE and its sales are not certified.

  1. Open OpenFiskal from your Shopify admin.
  2. Click "Registers" in the left sidebar.
  3. If the list is empty (normal on first launch), click "Add Registers" at the top and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. When the register appears in the list, select it with the checkbox on the left.
  5. Click "Fiscalize registers" in the top right.

Repeat the operation for every device you use as a till. If in the future you add a tablet or change phone, remember to fiscalize that one too: until you do, sales made from that device do not reach the Agenzia delle Entrate.

This is not the fiscalization of a Registratore Telematico

The term can be misleading. Fiscalizing a register in OpenFiskal has nothing to do with the procedure for fiscalizing a physical RT with the Agenzia delle Entrate.
There are no serial numbers here, no authorised technician is needed and you don't have to register any device on the AdE portal. It's simply how you tell OpenFiskal which tills it needs to certify.

Online sales: activating e-commerce fiscalization

If you also selected the online channel during activation, e-commerce fiscalization is already active and there's nothing to do. It's still worth checking, though.
Go to OpenFiskal, then Settings, then Italy, and check that under E-Commerce Fiscalization the option Send e-commerce orders to the AdE is set to Active.

With this option active, every online order is transmitted as a commercial document the moment it happens, shipping costs included. Refunds are transmitted as corrections, that is, as a return or a void.
There are no registers to fiscalize for e-commerce: the online channel is a single one and is activated with this switch.

Frequently asked questions

  • I sell both in-store and online. Do I need to do both?

Yes. They are two separate channels: registers cover Shopify POS sales, the switch covers online store orders.

  • I bought a new tablet for the till. Do I need to do anything?

Yes. Every new device must be added and fiscalized, otherwise its sales are not transmitted.

  • I fiscalized a register by mistake. Is that a problem?

No, it creates no obligations towards the Agenzia delle Entrate. It only transmits if sales go through that device. It's still worth de-fiscalizing it to avoid issues.

  • I sell online but I don't want to fiscalize e-commerce sales.

Before deactivating the option, talk to your accountant: how your online sales must be certified depends on the type of business you run.
